چکیده

We present an example-based planning framework to generate semantic grasps, stable grasps that are functionally suitable for specific object manipulation tasks. We propose to use partial object geometry, tactile contacts, and hand kinematic data as proxies to encode task-related constraints, which we call semantic constraints. We introduce a semantic affordance map, which relates local geometry to a set of predefined semantic grasps that are appropriate to different tasks. Using this map, the pose of a robot hand with respect to the object can be estimated so that the hand is adjusted to achieve the ideal approach direction required by a particular task. A grasp planner is then used to search along this approachdirection andgenerate a set of final grasps which have appropriate stability, tactile contacts, and hand kinematics. We show experiments planning semantic grasps on everyday objects and applying these grasps with a physical robot.

A theory on grasping objects using effectors with curved contact surfaces and its application to whole-arm grasping

This paper develops a theoretical framework for grasping objects using customized effectors that have curved contact surfaces and presents its application to the problem of robotic whole-arm grasping. We present a collection of immobilizing grasps and cages that can effectively restrain the mobility of a wide range of object shapes including polyhedra. Each of the grasps or cages is formed by a...

End-to-End Learning of Semantic Grasping

We consider the task of semantic robotic grasping, in which a robot picks up an object of a user-specified class using only monocular images. Inspired by the two-stream hypothesis of visual reasoning, we present a semantic grasping framework that learns object detection, classification, and grasp planning in an end-to-end fashion. A “ventral stream” recognizes object class while a “dorsal strea...

Synergy-level Grasp Synthesis Learning

Autonomous grasping is a complex task for robots. It is a high dimensional problem since it involves controlling for the hand position, orientation and joint angles to successfully grasp an object. In order to reduce the control complexity, we adopt a 3-step approach. In the first step, we compute several stable grasps that are adapted to the robotic hand using an optimization technique. In a s...

Grasping Objects with Environmentally Induced Position Uncertainty

Due to noisy motor commands and imprecise and ambiguous sensory information, there is often substantial uncertainty about the relative location between our body and objects in the environment. Little is known about how well people manage and compensate for this uncertainty in purposive movement tasks like grasping. Grasping objects requires reach trajectories to generate object-fingers contacts...
